The Camperdown Magistrate's Court postponed the case of attempted murder against "blue light" VIP escort Constable Hlanganani Khumalo to Monday.

Khumalo (31) allegedly shot at the tyre of a motorist, causing a head-on collision that injured eight people on the N3 near Camperdown in KwaZulu-Natal on 15 November, 2008.

He appeared briefly before magistrate Thys Taljaard on Friday.

Investigators on Khumalo's case told the court they were waiting for forensic reports of exhibits collected at the scene of the crash.

Once they had the reports, it was expected that Khumalo would be referred for trial in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court on a date to be decided.

Khumalo, a father of two, lives in Pietermaritzburg police barracks.

He was initially refused bail but after appealing, he was granted bail of R3500 by Judge Isaac Madondo in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.

The driver of the vehicle that he allegedly fired at, lost control and veered across the median and crashed into an oncoming bakkie.

At the time Khumalo, a passenger in the vehicle, was allegedly hurrying to pick up an MEC.

Khumalo faces eight charges of attempted murder and a charge of malicious injury to property.
