Nurses union Denosa and Medi-Clinic in Morningside, Johannesburg have reached an agreement on infection control procedures to stop the spread of viral haemorrhagic fever.

"Medi-Clinic and Denosa agreed on infection control procedures and confirmed that the safety of nurses was paramount," union spokesperson Asanda Fongqo said in a statement on Monday.

The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa raised concerns about the safety of nurses, conditions and procedures at the clinic after several cases of viral haemorrhagic fever.

A woman from Zambia, originally thought to have tick bite fever, the paramedic who accompanied her and two staffers at the clinic where she was treated, have died since 14 September.
