A 37-year-old Malawian man was shot and killed in Zwelitsha in King William's Town, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.

Spokesperson Captain Thozama Solani said the man was sitting in a parked car on Friday at 10pm.

"He was with his wife, brother and a friend inside the car when men came and opened fire on them. He was shot in the stomach and died on the scene."

Solani said the man's brother was shot in the lower body and taken to hospital. The man's friend ran away and the wife was treated for shock.

Solani said the motive for the killing was not yet known. No arrests had been made.
