A 38-year-old metro police officer was killed in Benoni after losing control of his car, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Sunday.
Spokesperson Jimmy Maboko said the man was travelling on Snake Road in Dube when the accident happened around 11pm on Saturday.
"The road is a bit curvy. We suspect that he lost control of the vehicle when he hit the steel barrier on the left. The car left the road and rolled several times before he was thrown out of it."
Maboko said he could not comment on whether the man had been wearing his seatbelt or not.
The officer died on the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. His name would be released once his next of kin had been informed.
