Three men robbed Free State ANC provincial secretary Sibongile Besane's home in Welkom, police said on Sunday.

Spokesperson Puleng Motsoeneng said the men took two plasma TVs from his house in Riebeeckstad on Friday around 2am.

"The men forcefully gained entry into the house after breaking a window," said Motsoeneng. The men were not armed and no one was injured.

Besane was away on business when the robbery happened, she said.

Meanwhile provincial ANC spokesperson Tebogo Sikisi said the men were not robbing Besane's house but were looking for him. According to Sikisi Besane's wife and daughter were held at gunpoint.

"What puzzles us is that during the robbery the men were constantly asking Besane's wife about his whereabouts," said Sikisi.

No one was arrested and police are investigating a case of housebreaking.
