A protest by hundreds of Cape Town taxi operators ended peacefully on Monday afternoon with the handing over of a memorandum in which the taxi operators specified their grievances againtst government's Bus Rapid Transit system.

Local radio station 567 CapeTalk reported on Monday that the protesters were upset about the introduction of the plan, which they fear will phase taxis out.

On Monday morning some motorists driving down Du Noon's Potsdam Road were stoned, allegedly by taxi operators.

But by the afternoon, police spokesperson Andre Traut told iafrica.com that taxi operators had handed over their memorandum at the Civic Centre and had left the city centre.

All roads which were affected also been reopened.

Some of the areas affected by Monday's protests included Khayelitsha, Delft, Nyanga, Mfuleni and Du Noon, which left hundreds of commuters stranded.
