"Today police received a report of a stabbing at the Amakholwa High School in Snathing. On arrival at the scene police found the body of a male learner, who has been identified as Nhlanhla Buthelezi, on the ground outside a classroom," said Superintendent Henry Budhram in a statement.
The pupil was stabbed three times.
"Initial investigations at the scene have established that several learners were standing along the corridors during the school break. It is alleged that two males entered the school, gaining entrance through a hole in the fence."
The two confronted Buthelezi, who was also in the corridor at the time, said Budhram.
"One of the males produced a knife and stabbed Buthelezi in the chest and back, fatally wounding him. Both the males thereafter fled from the school premises."
Budhram said it was established that the male who accompanied the suspect was a pupil at the school who was playing truant.
"It is also believed that the learner and the suspect are related. The motive for the incident is being investigated, arrests are imminent," he said.
