Four Durban pupils narrowly escaped death on Monday afternoon when they were hit by a car, emergency services said.

?Four Clarewood Primary School pupils were injured when they were pushed straight into the concrete fence. The driver was speeding, according to the eye witnesses,? Netcare 911?s Chris Botha said.

Botha said a 14-year-old pupil was in a critical condition and the other three pupils were in a serious condition.

All of them were taken to Durban?s King Edward hospital.

The driver was arrested by police, said Botha.
