A bomb threat emptied Pretoria central police station on Monday, leaving 600 gun licence applicants waiting on the streets, said Gauteng police.

"We're waiting for the dog unit to come through so the community can come back in and complete their applications," said Captain Tessa Jansen.

The bomb threat was phoned around 6pm.

Jansen could not say whether the threat was connected to the large numbers of gun applicants.
