South African ambassador to Angola, 61-year-old Themba Kubheka, has appeared in the Pinetown Magistrate's Court on charges of drunken and reckless driving, the Star newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Kubheka was arrested in the Kloof area on Sunday after allegedly crashing his Mercedes-Benz into a fence.

Kubheka had been ambassador to China, Mongolia and Denmark before being posted to Angola.

The case was adjourned until October 27.

The newspaper quoted the prosecutor as saying blood samples taken from Kubheka had to be sent for testing and other evidence was outstanding.
