A 24-year-old man was arrested and a large amount of dagga, ecstasy and cocaine were confiscated in East London, Eastern Cape police said on Sunday.

The narcotics were found when a crime prevention team searched a shack in the Buffalo Flats area, Superintendent Mtati Tana said in a statement.

Police were patrolling at Savator East Bank when they decided to search a shack where several people had been seen entering and leaving.

Police questioned the resident and his neighbour, searched the shack and found 2.5kg of dagga, 67 ecstasy tablets and one "rock" of cocaine.

The dagga was estimated to have a street value of about R7000, the ecstasy and cocaine were valued around R6000.

One of the men was arrested, but the other ran away.

The arrested suspect was expected to appear in the East London Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of dealing in drugs.
