A man had both his feet amputated on Monday after he was hit by a truck while crossing a road in Boksburg, Netcare 911 paramedics said.

"The man was crossing the road within an industrial site. As an 18-wheeler-truck rounded the bend it struck the man and he was pulled under the wheels. Both feet were amputated during the incident," said spokesman Mark Stokoe.

Stokoe said the man was trapped under the truck for some time and suffered severe blood loss.

He was stabilised by paramedics on the scene and airlifted to Milpark Hospital.

"Damage to his severed feet was extreme and it does not appear at this stage that anything can be done to salvage his feet," said Stokoe.
