A pilot was killed when a microlight aircraft crashed in Midrand on Tuesday, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Nick Dollman said paramedics arrived at the scene shortly before 7am and found that the pilot had sustained severe injuries.

He died at the scene.

The Civil Aviation Authority and the police were investigating the crash, Dollman said.
