Captain Mduduzi Godlwana said police discovered the man's body in a vacant house on Tuesday afternoon in what was believed to be suicide.
On 2 April the man went to Cape Town where his wife worked to determine if she had been committing adultery, Godlwana said.
The man returned from Cape Town convinced that his wife was seeing another man there.
He shot and injured his wife who was in a critical condition in a Mthatha hospital.
The man was captured by a community policing forum but he escaped as the group was making its way through dense bush.
A case of attempted murder and an inquest into the man's death were being investigated, said Godlwana.
Got something to say?
