Boesak, Cope's premier candidate in the Western Cape, was expected to land at Upington Airport at 11am to start a door-to-door campaign.
However, when the media phoned local Cope organisers 30 minutes before his arrival to confirm, they were informed that the visit was cancelled after Boesak called in sick.
The trip was apparently cancelled late on Tuesday night.
Boesak's electioneering campaign to the Khara-Hais region would have included a walk about the residential areas of Rosedale and Progress.
The visit would have included community meetings at Kenhardt and Keimoes, and ended with a Cope rally in Kakamas.
Northern Cape party spokesperson Fezile Kies said Boesak's visit was cancelled late on Tuesday because he was not feeling well.
"We are very sorry for the inconvenience," he said.
He could not explain why the media was not informed about the cancelled trip earlier.
