Four people died in two separate incidences on the same spot of
the N4 freeway towards Pretoria, paramedics said on Sunday.
Netcare911 spokesperson Mark Stokoe said the first accident which
occurred 40 km outside Sun City involved a family of five believed
to be from Australia.
Their vehicle collided with another car on Friday night.
"One adult and a child were killed. Another child was airlifted
to Unitas hospital in a critical condition while a third child and
another adult were taken to a nearby hospital in a stable
condition," said Stokoe.
He said the people in the other car were not seriously injured
but did require treatment and were also taken to hospital.
The three remaining Australian family members have since been
transferred to Unitas hospital so as to keep the family together,
said Stokoe
Meanwhile, a multi-vehicle accident which occurred on the same
spot shortly afterwards claimed the lives of two more people.
Stokoe said it was not clear whether they crashed into the first
accident scene or if that had already been cleared up.
"It is believed that up to five cars were involved in this
second collision," he said.
