ANC president Jacob Zuma joined at least 30 000 worshippers and around 150 bridal couples for their Easter celebrations in Johannesburg on Sunday.

Zuma arrived at the International Pentecostal Holiness Church in Zuurbekom on the West Rand after 11am.

He greeted the crowds, in accordance with church custom, with the words, bless the children of God" to which the crowd responded with an enthusiastic "amen".

Zuma, who was celebrating his sixty-seventh birthday, was preceded by the leader of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church, Glayton Modise.

When introduced to the congregation, Zuma received a louder response than Modise.

What followed was a procession of 150 grooms followed by their brides-to-be.

In some cases the men were marrying multiple women, as many as three at a time.

Before the service, Zuma toured the multi-million rand church complex.

He was followed by enthusiastic crowds wherever he went.

Also spotted was a car with Congress of the People flags in the outer parking lot.

Cope said its party president Terror Lekota would be at the church.

A church spokesperson said that Lekota had not been invited but hastened to add that all were welcome to worship at the church.
