The NPA may announce on Wednesday changes to the charges against the taxi driver who allegedly killed Bernadine Kruger, according to the Freedom Front Plus.
Kruger, a grade 11 pupil at Hoerskool Garsfontein in Pretoria, was killed in February while riding on her scooter in Atterbury Road in Pretoria. It was reported that the taxi driver, Percyval Matji, drove up to Kruger from behind, hooted at her and ran her over. Kruger died on the scene.
Matji was arrested the following day and appeared on charges of culpable homicide. He was released on bail of R1000.
The National Prosecuting Authority said on Tuesday it would answer the Freedom Front Plus' s questions on whether the charges would be changed in court.
"The FF Plus had requested the NPA in February this year to change the charge from culpable homicide to a murder charge. The NPA consistently kept the FF Plus up to date about the progress of the investigation and announced at the end of March that the FF Plus' request is being investigated forensically," said FF Plus spokesperson Conrad Beyers.
"The announcement could hold important implications for all road users who daily suffer under the reckless and defiant driving of taxis."
The case continues at the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
