Four members of a family have been killed in a head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a Volkswagen Jetta near Rustenburg, North West police said on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Constable Dipuo Modiko said the accident occurred on Monday at 6.20pm on the Rustenburg-Derby road. "Four people, including a three-year-old child in the Jetta, were killed. Two others, a five-year-old girl and a middle-aged man, were admitted to the Job Tabane Provincial Hospital (formerly Rustenburg Provincial Hospital) with serious injuries," she said. The driver of the minibus taxi was also admitted at the hospital with facial injuries. He was alone in the taxi. North West transport department spokesperson Mandla Mathebula said it was suspected the minibus was overtaking when it collided with the Jetta. Police have opened a case of culpable homicide.
