Hundreds of ANC supporters gathered at the Open Arena in Galeshewe, Kimberley, in anticipation of a visit by ANC president Jacob Zuma on Friday.

The smallish arena was packed to capacity, with many people sitting under umbrellas, or queuing at the gate.

They were being entertained with music while they waited for Zuma's last visit to the Northern Cape before the April 22 elections.

A huge police contingent kept watch.

The streets of Galeshewe, traditionally an ANC stronghold in the Kimberley area, are colourfully decorated with party election posters such as the ANC, Congress of the People, Democratic Alliance, and the Pan Africanist Congress.

Dominating the corner at the Open Arena is a huge billboard with the giant face of Cope's presidential candidate Mvume Dandala.

However he is surrounded by smaller ANC posters against the surrounding walls featuring Zuma's face.

A few blocks further the situation is reversed with a giant billboard featuring Zuma.

Zuma was expected to address the crowd later on Friday afternoon.
