Two men convicted of raping two women received sentences of 40 years each in the regional court in Maluti, Eastern Cape police said on Friday.

Captain Ursula Roelofse said that two 18-year-old women were walking late in the evening of 19 June 2007 from the Zethel locality to the Nchodu locality when two men approached them.

The men threatened the women with knives and then dragged them into the bushes, before both raping each woman.

Police conducted an extensive investigation into the case.

On Friday the subsequent court case came to an end when both men were given a 40-year-sentence for their crime.
