The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) suspects the human remains found last year on a farm in Cradock farm were those of the Pebco Three, SABC radio news reported on Friday.

The three activists — Sipho Hashe, Qaqawuli Godolozi and Champion Galela — were kidnapped at Port Elizabeth Airport by apartheid security police in 1985 and subsequently murdered on Post Chalmers farm.

NPA spokesman Tlali Tlali said the NPA could not conduct DNA testing on the bodies which were burnt beyond recognition, but the information that it had gathered indicated the bodies could be those of the three activists.

The NPA said the prosecution of the perpetrators would continue.

Meanwhile, the families of the Pebco Three have welcomed the outcome of the NPA's investigations, SABC reported.
