Spokesperson Neldah Hlase said the 35-year-old woman and a friend had been asleep in her shack in Ivory Park on Sunday night when she heard a window open.

She saw a man pointing a firearm at her through the window. The man ordered her to open the door to the shack.

He entered the shack and took the woman outside leaving her friend inside.

The man allegedly raped the woman before returning to the shack to steal cellphones and other items.

He then fled in the company of three other men.

The two women were too afraid to sleep in the shack and went to another man for help.

The man gave them a place to sleep for the night.

However, during the night the women awoke to find the man on top of the woman who was allegedly raped. He was trying to rape her.

The two fought with the man and overpowered him.

Police were summoned and arrested the man for attempted rape.

A further case of house robbery and rape was being investigated and police were searching for the alleged rapist, Hlase said.
