A man was killed and six others were injured when a building under construction collapsed in the east of Pretoria on Thursday, Gauteng police said.

Sergeant Lynette Erasmus said the building under construction opposite the Pretoria East hospital on Garsfontein road collapsed around 2pm on Thursday.

She said seven construction workers were busy working when it collapsed.

One of the men died on scene, five others were seriously injured and one man was slightly injured.

All the injured were taken to hospitals for treatment, she said.
