The trial involving the former bodyguard of KwaZulu-Natal social development MEC Meshack Hadebe was postponed in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court on Tuesday, the SABC reported.

This would give Constable Hlanganani Nxumalo the opportunity to consult his lawyers. The case would continue on 7 May.

Nxumalo faced eight counts of attempted murder and one of malicious damage to property. On 15 November last year, on the N3 highway between Pietermaritzburg and Durban, he allegedly shot out the tyre of a Mazda, causing it to veer into oncoming traffic and collide head-on with a bakkie. There were six people in each car. Eight of them were injured.

The court previously heard that Nxumalo was not attending to any emergency when he allegedly fired the shot while overtaking. However, he was in a hurry to pick Radebe up.

He was currently out on R3500 bail.
