A woman burnt to death inside her car following an accident on the N1 highway in Pretoria on Thursday, Netcare 911 paramedics said.
Spokesperson Mark Stokoe said the accident happened around 3.15pm between the Rigel and Atterbury off-ramps on the N1 north.
A truck struck the woman's Hyundai from behind. A tow-truck driver immediately stopped and tried to help, but the car was already engulfed in flames. The driver told paramedics that the door handles had started to melt and he was unable to open the car.
The N1 north between Rigel and Atterbury was closed to traffic around 4.30pm, said Stokoe.
Tshwane Metro police were unavailable for comment.
