Access roads to Coca Cola Park in central Johannesburg will be closed from 8.00am on Saturday morning as the city prepares to test its readiness for the FIFA Confederations Cup.

Access control will begin at the Joe Slovo off-ramp on the M1 for the derby between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Police said they hope people will make use of the free park-and-ride facilities at Bezuidenhout Park, Wits University and Nasrec.

The police’s Mike Smith explained: "There will be a full road closure particularly affecting Joe Slovo Drive on the northern side. On the southern side Joe Slovo will be closed at the M2 off-ramp there will be a traffic warning zone around the stadium".

The streets include Sivewright road, Beit street, Upper Railway, and Miller street which are being blocked in anticipation of Saturday's soccer match between the Kaiser Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, said Senior Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.
