Captain Colette Weilbach said the man collected $5000 at an FNB bank in Brooklyn, which he was to deliver to an RMB bank in Lynnwood Glen, Pretoria.
"He alleged that two men stole the money after forcing him to drive to Isando, east of Johannesburg at gun point."
After viewing CCTV footage at the two banks, police came to the conclusion that the man had lied about the armed robbery and hijacking. The suspect faces charges of defeating the ends of justice, perjury and theft.
