ANC wins 24 wards, DA 4

The ANC won 24 wards in Wednesday's by-elections, the DA five, according to results published on the Independent Electoral Commission's website.

The ANC won 15 wards in the Eastern Cape with one ward ? Nelson Mandela Bay ? going to the DA.

The ruling party won six wards in the Free State, two in KwaZulu-Natal and one of two being contested in Limpopo, the other went to the DA.

In KwaZulu-Natal the ANC won ward 15, the Umlalazi municipality, with 833 votes to the Inkatha Freedom Party's 797. It also won ward 10, in the Ingwe municipality, with 1364 votes to the IFP's 171.

Two Western Cape wards up for grabs were returned to the DA.
