Deputy president and ANC chairperson Baleka Mbete is to work at
Luthuli House on a full-time basis, party secretary general Gwede
Mantashe said on Friday.
"In considering the allocation of responsibilities of the senior
leaders of the movement, the officials have decided that Mbete
should be deployed to work full-time at ANC headquarters in
Johannesburg," Mantashe said in a statement.
The party noted the speculation about where Mbete would be
deployed and clarified that she was not sworn in on Wednesday
because "consultations about her deployment had not yet been
concluded".
The outgoing deputy president in a surprise move remained in her
seat after her name was called out as MPs were being sworn in the
national assembly on Wednesday.
She was reportedly in the running to continue in her current
position.
