Robbers placed a duvet over a sleeping teenager while they emptied his house in Flora Park in Polokwane, Limpopo police said on Sunday.

Captain Mohlaka Mashiane said the 14-year-old boy was sleeping on a couch, his three other family members in their rooms, when an unknown number of people entered the house on Saturday night.

The robbers broke through the front door, stole a plasma-screen TV, a laptop and a DVD player. They went into the boy's bedroom, got a duvet and put it over the sleeping boy before making good their escape. No one was injured during the incident.

A case of housebreaking and theft was being investigated.

Explaining why they put a duvet on the boy, Mashiane said the thieves ransacked the house without disturbing the family, and that they were not out to harm, but to steal.

Also in Polokwane 52 people were arrested for various crimes during a weekend crime-combating operation. They were arrested for various crimes including public drinking, possession of suspected stolen property, prostitution, road traffic offences and assault. All of them were expected to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Monday.
