Eight members of the IFP Youth Brigade were suspended from the party after they demonstrated outside the party's head office in Ulundi on Sunday, the Inkatha Freedom Party said.
Spokesperson Musa Zondi said seven members of the KwaZulu-Natal IFP YB provincial executive and one ordinary member had their party memberships suspended.
The eight youths were in Ulundi to present their concerns to the IFP national council but staged a demonstration instead.
"The conduct of these youths amounts to a gross violation of party discipline," Zondi said.
The special meeting of the council was called in order to provide a platform for the disaffected members of the IFP YB to make their concerns known to the wider party leadership.
"Instead, they continued in their habit of airing their grievances in the media without engaging the party.
The disaffected members were intent on causing a media stir rather than seek common ground with the party leadership, Zondi said.
"In order to prevent incorrect interpretation of today's resolution concerning the eight suspended IFP YB members, the IFP wishes to make it clear that the party membership of these youths has been suspended, not terminated pending further steps in terms of the IFP Constitution."
An IFP YB delegation from Johannesburg was also in Ulundi. They made a presentation to the council on their concerns.
