More than 1700 residents of flood-prone areas of the Cape Peninsula would be relocated to Delft and Belhar, the SABC reported on Sunday.
City of Cape Town mayor Dan Plato visited families affected by flooding in Khayelitsha's BT section on Sunday.
Plato told the broadcaster: "The dramatic issue, for us, is to how best are we going to deal with people living in flood-prone areas. And the only answer to that is we will have to relocate them."
"That is the truth and that is part of the City of Cape Town's current focus," Plato said.
