Two people were arrested for damaging police vehicles in the Chatsworth area on Monday, SABC radio news reported.
Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said the two would appear before the Chatsworth Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
He told the broadcaster: "A group of about 500 people interrupted and disrupted the meeting and when the police officers were called in to intervene they were equally attacked by the same mob and their cars were damaged."
In a related development nine people have appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrate's Court for allegedly burning down the house of their local councillor on Sunday.
The nine were part of a group who protested over house in Welbedacht east near Chatsworth on Sunday.
Mdunge said: "A group of about 3000 people centred around in the area and they were boycotting and causing havoc which eventually led them to attacking the council house and also caused some damages in the area.
"They were subsequently charged with a case of arson as well as public violence," he said.
All nine people were released on warning and the case was postponed to 10 June.
