Two youths were convicted of murder by the Pietermaritzburg High Court on Wednesday after they confessed to killing a teacher for money.

Ntokozo Mthembu (18) and Mthokozisi Bhengu (19) told the court a woman related to one of them offered them R50 000 to kill Cynthia Nxele.

She allegedly wanted her dead because she was having an affair with her husband.

These facts emerged when the two confessed to the murder before Acting Judge Rose Mogwera.

The two from Hibberdene on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, said they were tempted by the offer.

They persuaded Nxele to drive them to a bushy area where they told her they could sell her petrol cheaply.

Mthembu said when they arrived at the area he told Nxele to stop.

Bhengu jumped out of the car and ran to the driver's door. Mthembu stabbed her in the neck while Bhengu stabbed her chest with a screwdriver.

She died from the stab wounds on the scene.

They drove away in her car but it stalled and they could not get it going again. They abandoned it and caught a taxi home, leaving Nxele's body in the car.

Their legal aid counsel Kelvin Singh asked that a pre-sentence report be prepared and the case was adjourned to 29 June.
