A three-year-old boy burned to death when a thatched mud-hut burnt down at Mavalani village outside Giyani in Limpopo, the SABC reported on Wednesday. Giyani ward councillor Thomas Maluleke said the boy's grandmother sustained burn wounds when she tried to rescue the child.

She was treated at the Nkhensani hospital.

Maluleke said family members suspected the fire might have been caused by a candle.
