Nelson Mandela Bay residents are facing a proposed 26.5 percent hike in electricity tariffs in July, The Herald Online reported on Friday.

The budget and treasury committee and mayoral executive also proposed on Thursday that property rates increase by 10 percent, water rates increase by 11 percent, sanitation by nine percent and refuse removal by 10 percent.

Johannesburg City announced earlier this week that its property rates were expected to increase by 18 percent and its electricity service charges would rise by 30 percent.
