A Saldanha man will appear in court for murder on Monday following the disappearance of a 10-year-old girl last week, police said.

"We are in possession of evidence that she might have been murdered and that implicates the suspect," said Inspector Bernadine Steyn.

"She is still missing and the suspect will appear in court today [Monday]."

A 32-year-old man was arrested on Friday after Motesha Kekana went missing from her home in Iraq informal settlement near Saldanha in the southern Cape on Thursday.

The girl was seen walking with the man before her disappearance and the police later found her shoes in his possession.

He will appear in the Vredenburg Magistrate's Court.

The police search for the girl continues.
