A relative of a 14-year-old girl has been arrested for allegedly raping her in Kew, Gauteng police said on Monday.
Inspector Moses Maphakela the man, aged 40, apparently saw the teenager playing on the street in Kew on Sunday.
He asked her to drop off a jacket of his at his home. He then followed her back into his house and raped her. He told her not to tell anyone about the incident and in exchange he would buy her clothes.
However, when the girl got home, her mother wanted to know why she was late. At first she did not answer, but then her mother slapped her and she told her what had happened.
The mother then took the girl to the police to report the incident.
The man was arrested around 7pm on charges of rape and indecent assault.
He will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Got something to say?
