A former soccer star who was on the run following the death of a 27-year-old man in Dobsonville, handed himself over to police on Monday.

According to The Star, the star has been identified as former Orlando Pirates player Mandla 'Metroblitz' Sithole.

"He handed himself over to police around 7pm today, following reports carried in the media," said Inspector Kay Makhubela.

Sithole is alleged to have stabbed the man in the chest around 1pm on Sunday and then drove him to Leratong hospital, where the man later died.

After dropping the man at the hospital, Sithole is alleged to have left, not knowing that his alleged victim would die moments later.

"The man is known to the deceased's family," Makhubela said.

The soccer player would appear in the Roodeport Magistrates Court on Tuesday, he said.
