The Nxamalala clan in Nkandla in KwaZulu-Natal will slaughter 25 cows on Saturday to celebrate President Jacob Zuma’s ascendancy to the highest office.

The party, which the organisers have dubbed "the mother of parties", was supposed to take place immediately after Zuma’s inauguration but had to be delayed because of the president’s tight schedule.

The party will take place at Ntolwane Primary School which is just a stone’s throw away from Zuma’s homestead in Nkandla. It is the same school where Zuma cast his vote last month.

The leader of the Nxamalala clan, Inkosi Bheki Zuma, who is related to the president, said preparations for the party were at an advanced stage.

"We have started erecting big tents and 25 cows will be slaughtered to feed scores of people. We want to celebrate in style.

"It is going to be a big party, a mother of all parties. We are expecting a lot of people to come and celebrate with us," he said on Tuesday.

'Not a walk in the park'

He said people of his clan were proud that the president of the country was from their area.

"What makes people even more proud is the fact that Zuma's ascendancy to power was not a walk in the park. He worked very hard during the struggle and also in government," said Zuma.

The main speech will be delivered by the president. This will be followed by music from various bands.

Zuma said prominent government leaders and senior African National Congress leaders were also expected to attend the party.

"We have also invited big companies which will send their representatives. The representatives will also tell people of this area how they can develop themselves and also motivate the youth.

"They will also tell the youth about opportunities and scholarships that they have," said Bheki Zuma.

The party will start at 9am.
