Fourteen people were injured when a taxi and Toyota Corolla collided in Randburg on Wednesday morning, ER24 paramedics said.

Spokesman Werner Vermaak said the accident happened just before 7am in Cosmo City, north of Johannesburg.

"Paramedics that arrived on the scene found people sitting around an overturned taxi near the intersection.

"All of the occupants from the taxi sustained multiple bruises and injuries, but fortunately most of their injuries were only minor."

Vermaak said two of the people in the taxi sustained moderate injuries.

They were treated on the scene for possible spinal injuries before being taken to hospital.

The driver of the Toyota, a woman in her thirties, was only slightly injured in the accident.

All the injured were taken to various hospitals.

"It is understood from bystanders that one of the vehicles might have skipped the intersection and caused the collision."
