A Johannesburg metro policeman will appear in the Protea Magistrate's Court to face a murder charge on Wednesday morning, police said.

Soweto police had been searching for him since the weekend so that he could clarify the circumstances of a murder which took place when four men had an argument over his sister.

Inspector Kay Makhubele said police finally traced the 23-year-old official and he would appear in the court on Wednesday.

Two other people were also arrested in connection with the crime.

The argument started when four men left a shebeen in Zondi on Sunday arguing over who was going to accompany their female companion home.

One of the men was shot dead, allegedly after the metro policeman heard about the row over his sister and confronted one of the men.

Makhubele said police hoped the three would be able to clarify what happened. They were still seeking the fourth man from the original group.
