Najwa Petersen's family say that they will appeal her prison sentence.

Petersen was sentenced to 28 years behind bars in the Cape High Court on Wednesday.

Abdoer Emjedi and Waheed Hassen were sentenced to 24 and 25 years respectively for the murder, while Jeffersen Snyders was sentenced to a suspended 10-year sentence for armed robbery.

Taliep Petersen's sister Ma'atoema Groenmeyer told Eyewitness News she was satisfied with the sentences handed down.

Meanwhile, Cape High Court Judge Siraj Desai instructed welfare authorities to ensure that Najwa's youngest daughter was properly taken care of.

The young girl lives with Najwa's sons in the Athlone home where Taliep was killed.

The family advocate recommended that she remain there, as she has close ties to her mother's family.
