The country may never know why Najwa Petersen killed her husband Taliep.

Petersen was sentenced to 28 years behind bars on Wednesday.

Abdoer Emjedi and Waheed Hassen were sentenced to 24 and 25 years respectively for the murder, while Jefferson Snyders was sentenced to a suspended 10 year sentence for armed robbery.

Najwa gets 28 years in prison

Cape High Court Judge Siraj Desai said it remained unclear why Petersen had the popular musician killed.

"She has not furnished any explanation"

"She has not furnished any explanation for her conduct, but Labuschagne suggested possible motives, suggested emotional instability, build up of rage and anger, that may be so, but in the absence of any evidence from the accused in this regard, we simply do not know why she elected to do what she did," said Desai.

Taliep Petersen's sister Ma'atoema Groenmeyer said she was satisfied with the sentence.

"I'm happy with the sentence, it runs concurrently. Thirty-eight years brought down to 28, it's enough, it's a lifetime. I feel like Najwa won't be going to see the day of light ever again," said Groenmeyer.
