Roads around the Ellispark stadium will be blocked from 1pm on Saturday due to a Confederations Cup match, Johannesburg metro police said.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the roads will be closed on the M2 freeway at Joe Slovo Drive as well as between Saratoga and Abel roads on the main route.

Motorists were advised to drive along the M1 and the M2 to avoid congestion.

Minnaar urged fans to use parking facilities at The Dome in Randburg or Nasrec parking in the south of Johannesburg. "The Wits facility gets full too quickly and fans end up pitching late for the matches," said Minnaar.

All roads would be re-opened at mid-night.
