The Democratic Alliance has told the Gauteng Legislature that Premier Paul Mashatile appointed Carl Niehaus to the Gauteng Economic Development Agency without advertising the post and that proper procedures were not followed during the appointment.

Niehaus resigned as African National Congress spokesperson after admitting he committed fraud while at GEDA.

The DA's Jack Bloom responded to the premier's state of the province address when he made his accusation that Mashatile himself was responsible for the improper appointment of Niehaus to the top job at GEDA.

Bloom also claimed that the chair of the GEDA board, Moss Ngoesheng, resigned when he heard about the appointment in the media.
