There have been no new cases of swine flu in South Africa, the department of health said on Wednesday.

"We don't have any new cases but we're remaining vigilant," said spokesperson Fidel Hadebe.

"We have our systems ready. We're just monitoring the situation in the country to respond."

Last Thursday, 12-year-old Aleksey Goussard became the first reported victim of swine flu in South Africa. He had contracted the virus while visiting relatives in the United States.

Hadebe said Goussard has since recovered from the flu.

"The boy is long fine," he said.
