The SABC's bid to prevent a pay strike during the Confederations Cup will be heard on Thursday afternoon at the Labour Court in Johannesburg.

The matter was to have been heard at 10am but the busy court roll put it back to 2pm, SABC's lawyer Puke Maserumule said.

The Communications Workers Union and the Media Workers Association of SA were given a right to strike certificate by the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration last week.

The broadcaster intended applying for a review of this and also wanted to apply for an interdict to block a strike until the review had been finalised.
