A 45-year-old taxi owner was shot and killed outside his house in Zondi, Soweto, south of Johannesburg on Thursday, police said.

"The man was shot several times as he was driving out of his house in a taxi squad car around 6pm," said Inspector Kay Makhubela.

The man died on the scene.

At the scene police found four 9mm cartridges.

Police were investigating a case of murder and appealed to anyone with information to call Senior Superintendent Moabello on 011-527-7000 or use the 10111 number.
